YouTube have revealed their paid offering that lets you watch videos without ads.
After months of rumours YouTube are releasing the first ever subscription service for the worlds most popular video hosting site. The new YouTube Red membership will let users watch videos ad-free for a monthly subscription charge.
For $9.99 a month with YouTube Red you will also get to save videos and music for offline viewing, something requested by users for years.In addition you can play videos in the background of your device whilst you’re browsing or using other apps.
One of the most interesting features of the YouTube Red reveal however is their promise that members will have access to ‘YouTube Red Original Series and Movies’ that will premiere in 2016. However there is currently very little revealed about the types of original content YouTube is planning.
Today YouTube also show off their upcoming app YouTube Music which they say will be “amplified by a YouTube Red membership.” In their blog post they say: “YouTube Music is designed to make discovering, watching and listening to music easier than ever. Any song or artist you choose on YouTube Music will start you on a personal journey through one of the richest music catalogs; just sign in, tap a track you love, and see where your music takes you.”
YouTube say that they have been told by fans for years that they wanted “more choice when watching their favourite content.” In response YouTube have created dedicated apps, starting with YouTube Kids and YouTube Gaming and now YouTube Music for music lovers and YouTube Red for enhanced viewing.
YouTube Red is going to be available in the US starting October 28 with plans for release in additional markets in the future. Users will be able to try it out for free with a one month free trial.
Any users with a Google Play Music subscription will get access to YouTube Red and vice-versa. They say the YouTube Music app will be coming soon.
