Google and Amazon regularly offer heavy discounts on their smart speaker devices, in hopes of getting these speakers in your house and locking you into their ecosystems. For example get one cheap Echo Dot and hopefully spend money on more Echo speakers, Amazon products, Amazon Prime, Amazon Music etc.

Google are hoping this deal will entice more users to YouTube Premium, YouTube Music and Google Play Music, as well as boost their share in the smart speaker market. Amazon kick started smart speakers with Amazon Echo in 2014. By 2018 more competitors came along, but they still owned 72% of the market, with Google at 18%. Today, with many similar offers to this, Google have gained a 31% share in the market with Amazon down to 53%.

If you’re into Amazon speakers, keep an eye out for Prime Day August-September this year.
