How to get my music on Instagram Story

Instagram stories and reels are fantastic sources ways for artists to promote their music. Like many social media platforms, over the years Instagram has evolved from static filtered images to video, and now stories and reels to which users can add stickers and music.

Much like on TikTok, music chosen to accompany social media content can go far, with curious listeners seeking out the track if they like the sound of it on somebody’s Instagram Story.


How can I get my songs on Instagram stories?

A track has to be added to the Instagram content library before it can be used on stories. Artists can add music to Instagram and Facebook by using a digital music distributor.

How to add music to an Instagram story

Once your track is added to the Instagram library, share it on your own Instagram story to start promoting your music.

On the Instagram app, open the New Post page by either swiping right on the main Instagram screen, tapping your profile picture on the stories bar at the top left of the screen, or tapping the [+] icon at the very top of the app. Swipe at the bottom to STORY. You can then take a photo or video, or upload your own media.

Now for the music. To add music to your Instagram story, navigate to the music tab either by tapping the music notes icon at the top of the screen or swiping up to reveal the Stickers menu and tapping MUSIC.

Search for the song to add to your story.

You can preview a song by tapping the play button beside the track. Tap the title to make your selection.

Choose from different song lyric views, or a sticker with the artist and track name which can be pinch-zoomed and dragged wherever you’d like.  

Changed your mind? Just drag the track icon to the bin at the bottom of the screen to delete.

Happy? Just hit the Your Story button to add to your Instagram story, complete with your music.
