iOS 14.5 Beta 2 reveals a neat new trick that allows Apple Music users to quickly share lines of lyrics on Instagram Stories, with attached audio when shared to iMessage.

As developers and those on the public beta get early access to iOS 14.5, we’re finding out more and more about the upcoming iPhone update, such as the ability to set a default third-party music streaming service on Siri.

Earlier this week, Apple release Beta 2 of iOS and iPadOS 14.5. Not found in previous versions of iOS 14.5, the latest feature addition comes to Apple Music. Spotted by developer Federico Viticci on Twitter, when listeners are viewing real-time lyrics, a long-press on a line will pull up the share card. From here you can select multiple lines, with up to 150 characters, then share to Instagram Stories for example. When shared to iMessage, the text will also feature an audio clip of the lines highlighted.

The feature currently isn’t available for all songs with lyrics in Apple Music. This may change before the final release of iOS 14.5. Other Apple Music features spotted in iOS 14.5 include additional gestures for playing and queuing song, as well as cosmetic tweaks. iOS 14.5 also allows Apple Watch users to unlock their iPhone with Face ID while wearing a mask, support for next gen console controllers and other minor system and app changes.

We should see a public release some time in March. To test run any of these new features ahead of time, head to beta.apple.com on an iPhone to sign up for the public beta. Beware of unusual behaviour as with any pre-release software.
