With budgets to fit all, let your music find new audiences by promoting your photos and videos on Instagram.

In recent years, Instagram has shifted from a square photo sharing app, to a full on social media platform with around one billion monthly active users. It’s no wonder 25 billion businesses are reaching customers through Instagram. You can turn any post into an advert to be displayed in followers’ and new users’ feeds and Stories, depending on where it’s performing best. It’s super easy to create an ad, and Instagram provides all of the tools you need to customize the look and cost. First of all, you need to convert your account to a business profile.

For new posts, toggle the Create a Promotion option before sharing the post. For existing posts, go to your profile, tap the post, then tap Create Ad below the post and follow the steps below:

  1. Select a goal – choose whether you’re after more profile visits, more messages or more website visits (this adds an action button, so users can quickly access a link).
  2. Define your audience – select either Automatic to let Instagram target people similar to those you follow, or Create your own to manually choose who to target based on location, age, interests and gender.
  3. Budget and duration – use the two sliders to pick how much you’re willing to spend over how many days. This will give you a total cost and an estimated number of people your post will reach based on the sliders.
  4. Review your ad – Finally preview and pay for your ad. Here you can see how the post will be displayed on the Feed, Stories and Explore pages.

Your post must meet Facebook’s advertising policies to be approved. Most ads are reviewed in 60 minutes. You will be notified in your Activity Feed once your post has been reviewed and when the campaign ends. You’ll find stats showing how many times, as well as who and where your advert has been viewed.

Be sure to distribute your music through RouteNote (including free distribution to Instagram) to make use of the extra attention your music will grab.
