As 2021 Wrapped summarises user’s unique tastes, Spotify also unveil the most streamed music and podcasts around the world over the last year

Yesterday Spotify launched 2021 Wrapped, a personalized list of all of your most played artists, songs, genres, podcasts and more. In the new 2021 Wrapped hub, alongside your unique playlists, you’ll find top global and local playlists too. Here are the most played artists, songs, albums, podcasts and more streamed by Spotify’s 381 million listeners. Scroll to the bottom or click here to see other notable trends of streaming on Spotify in 2021, such as rediscovered old favourites, plant music, lazy playlists, sea shanties, vaccine playlists and space playlists.


Top 5 Most Streamed Artists Globally

For the second year in a row, Puerto Rican Reggaeton star Bad Bunny is crowned the most-streamed artist in the world on Spotify this year. The artist managed to pull in over 9.1 billion streams across his catalogue, without releasing a new album. Thanks in part to the re-release of her album Red (Taylor’s Version), giving old and new fans alike a reason to relive her earlier work, Taylor Swift takes second place. BTS, globally loved k-pop group, were the third most played artists, with single “Butter” securing their place. Coming in fourth place, is Canadian hip-hop artist Drake, whose album Certified Lover Boy in September hold the record for the most-streamed album in a single day on the platform. Justin Bieber achieves fifth place this year, with his new album Justice full of collaborations with artists across the globe.

Top 5 Most Streamed Songs Globally

As well as albums, Olivia Rodrigo scores big in singles, with “drivers license” pulling in over 1.1 billion streams. Lil Nas X‘s “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)” from his first album, comes in second place. The Kid LAROI enters the rank for the first time, thanks to his collaboration with Justin Bieber on “STAY”. Rodrigo also achieves fourth place with track “good 4 u”, which was also crowned Spotify’s Song of the Summer 2021. After releasing last year, “Levitating (feat. DaBaby” by Dua Lipa rises the ranks to land in fifth place.






Top 5 Most Streamed Podcasts Globally

Bringing with it a whole load of controversy, The Joe Rogan Experience survived its first full year as a Spotify exclusive, landing in first place. Alex Cooper’s Caller Her Daddy became a Spotify exclusive this year, securing its place as the second most-streamed podcast. True crime and news were also popular genres this year, with Crime Junkie, TED Talks Daily and The Daily pulling in third, fourth and fifth place.
