Deezer has launched real-time automatic translation for song lyrics on the streaming service. Here’s how it works.

Ever wished you could see the lyrics of songs on Deezer in another language without having to leave the app? A new function expands the existing karoke-style lyrics feature to bring translation to Deezer with one click.

Active immediately, translations of English songs can be seen in French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish on the Android or iOS app, web, and desktop. At the moment you can only translate songs from English, not to English.

Alexandra Leloup, VP Product – Core Products at Deezer said: “Music fans have always been able to immerse themselves in the thoughts and feelings of the artist with our widely popular lyrics function.”

“But with our new Lyrics Translation feature, they can now discover the artist’s true meaning behind their favourite tunes, and even sharpen their language skills, or totally learn a new language in the process.”

Learning another language through your favourite songs might sound farfetched, but plenty of people around the world have found watching Friends, for example, helpful for learning English – why should listening to songs be any stranger?

Not all songs on Deezer will have automatic translation – at the moment, 10,000 popular songs are available, including “Heat Waves” by Glass Animals and GAYLE’s “abcdefu.”
