YouTube Music joins the likes of Spotify and Apple Music, by going full karaoke mode and introducing real-time lyrics to the mobile app.

YouTube Music just quietly updated their mobile app to include lyrics that are highlighted as each line is sung. The update, along with an app store listing that now reads “Song lyrics so you can sing along to your favorites”, were spotted by Reddit users.

This update bring YouTube Music in-line with Spotify, which introduced real-time lyrics in 2020, and Apple Music which first saw the feature back in 2019, before updating it a few months ago with the introduction of Apple Music Sing. YouTube are hoping this update will further boost their 80 million paying YouTube Music and YouTube Premium subscribers.
