Spotify Lossless may be coming as a paid add-on
Listeners have long awaited lossless audio on Spotify and after many rumours, a new one suggests it could be coming as a paid bonus feature.
Spotify announcements and leaks have had listeners on the edge of their seats for years, waiting for Hi-Fi lossless audio. Late last year, convincing leaks suggested that Spotify were preparing for a new subscription tier called Supremium, offering Hi-Fi as well as other bonus features.
Now, code in Spotify recent Android build suggests a new answer for high definition, lossless audio on Spotify. The latest leaks suggest that an optional add on named “Music Pro” will bring lossless audio as well as a DJ remix feature. It currently seems that Music Pro isn’t a separate plan but instead a paid add-on that users will be able to add to their account.
The DJ feature will reportedly give listeners control to speed up, slow down, and edit Spotify songs. What they intend to allow users to do with these edits hasn’t been suggested just yet. It will offer an easily monetised solution for the huge audience of listeners on TikTok who have come to love sped-up versions of songs.
Reddit user Hypixely has been doing a lot of the hard work finding this information within Spotify code. Within the code is an unambiguous statement, reading “lossless has arrived” and another subtitle reading: “Your favorite music in 16-bit and 24-bit high-fidelity sound.”
Additionally, the code suggests a new technology that will allow users to enhance the sound in certain headphones. Apple AirPods are one of the brands given a mention for the feature.
