Spotify and Genius go Behind the Lyrics of top tracks, now on Android

Delve deep within the stories behind the music, the true meaning behind the words and find out fun facts about your favourite artists with Genius-powered playlists on Spotify, now on Android.

Spotify first joined up with Genius last year when they launched ‘Behind the Lyrics’ on their iOS app with the goal of going beyond the songs lyrics and looking further into the meaning and stories surrounding tracks. Genius is a site devoted to just that, the analysis of lyrics and tracks, and was used by millions of users on iPhone.

Now Android users can “get lyrical” and go beyond the lyrics in their favourite tracks on Spotify as Genius bring Behind the Lyrics onto the Spotify Android app. Behind the Lyrics is available on Spotify’s curated playlists Behind the Lyrics: Hip Hop and Today’s Top Hits and reveals lyrical excerpts, fun facts, and stories from the actual artist themselves.

To celebrate the launch of Behind the Lyrics R&B artist Khalid has uniquely annotated every song on American Teen for a unique, personal glimpse into his new album. Khalid said: “Genius’ Behind the Lyrics on Spotify is very helpful because it gives you insight on what the artist was thinking about when they created the record. It also lets you think about the things you didn’t think of before.

“You listen to a record, and you interpret it your own way. But with this, you can see what the artist felt. ‘You know what? Maybe it doesn’t mean what I thought. Maybe it means this.’ But at the same time, music is universal. Music can mean anything you want.”

You can start using Behind the Lyrics on Android’s Spotify app now.
