Instagram extend Stories from 15 seconds to 60 seconds, as they roll out the feature to a small group of users.

Since combining Instagram feed videos and IGTV into one format, the Meta-owned social media platform now has three features for videos of varying length.

  • Instagram Stories – up to 15 seconds
  • Instagram Reels – up to 60 seconds
  • Instagram Videos – up to 60 minutes

Initially found in the back-end of Instagram by app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi last month, Instagram are now starting to roll out 60-second Stories to a small group of users. This will give users the ability to create and view longer Stories without interruptions caused by splitting a video. The extended length also allows users to share entire Instagram Reels in Stories. Users will be able to skip with a single tap, just like any other Instagram Story.

The ability to create longer Stories posts comes highly requested by our community. We’re excited to be testing 60-second Stories so that people can create and view Stories with fewer interruptions.

Should the testing by successful, we can expect to see this roll out to more users in the coming weeks. This move is thought to simplify the app’s experience as they continue to compete against the simplicity of TikTok.
