We finally know when we’re getting the next, big update to one of the world’s favourite music production DAWs – Ableton Live 12.

Ableton Live 12 is on the way and we’ve already had a look at all of it’s new features. Now we finally have a release date to look forward to: March 5th, 2024.

There are hundreds of new features and tools coming in Live 12, from subtle workflow improvements to entirely new instruments. Ableton write: “Get ready to generate and transform your ideas in playful new ways with MIDI Tools, work more intuitively with an improved interface and browser, lose yourself in new instruments, effects, and much more.”

A large theme of the new update is MIDI control. They’re introducing a bunch of tools that allow you to customize your MIDI clips and automatically generate all sorts of MIDI arrangements. You can quickly produce rhythms and melodies, or use the generators to come up with unique, quirky new chords and beats.

There are also two new packs, bringing a selection of unusual sounds taken from strange materials and another full of devices from Iftah. There are also two new instruments and a new effects plugin that offers colour and saturation to your sounds.
