Spotify brings brand new features for songwriters to get their songs heard and their name recognised.

Songwriters: Often forgotten, but not for long. Songwriters are often the hidden geniuses behind the songs we know and love. Even some of the world’s biggest artists can be hidden behind a songwriting credit when they write for other big names.

CeeLo Green’s hit song “Forget You” was really written by Bruno Mars. “Diamonds” by Rihanna was co-written by Sia on the low. Sinéad O’Connor’s unforgettable anthem “Nothing Compares 2 U” was written and even recorded originally by Prince. Have you heard of Christina Milian? Maybe not, but they’re the reason you couldn’t get Justin Bieber’s “Baby” out of your head in 2010.

Spotify have just launched their newest addition to Promo Cards, offering songwriters the chance to promote their contributions to songs and highlight their work.

Songwriter’s can personalise their own unique graphic which they can share to promote a song and their work on it. It’s easy to do and gives songwriters a way to highlight their achievements across social media and beyond, bringing attention to the music they’ve helped bring to life on Spotify.

Spotify have three simple steps for songwriters to get their Promo Cards ready and released:

SELECT: Search for the content you want to promote. You can share your songwriter profile (the generated share card will link out to your Songwriter Page) or your Written By playlist (the generated share card will link out to your Written By playlist on Spotify).

CUSTOMIZE: How do you want your share card displayed? Will it be square, horizontal, or portrait? You can choose the aspect ratio and background color from a palette of complementary options.

SHARE: You can choose one of the direct share options on the site to post it to social media. You can also download your new creation and upload it wherever you like with the link to your content the site generates.

Spotify have been bringing light to songwriters more and more in recent years, since launching the option to open up a song’s credits and see the contributors beyond the primary and featuring artists. Now, Spotify have an entire website for songwriters to manage their presence on Spotify full of information on how to bring themselves further forward, alongside the artists they write for.

Spotify’s new promo cards for songwriters are just another step for equalising the music stage, ensuring that everyone involved gets credit. Songwriters walk so that major artists can run, and we’re all for the recognition of their hard work.

Recent years have seen other boosts to the credit songwriters get, with a significant increase in royalties announced for songwriters whose songs are streamed in the US last year. Whether you’re behind of or at the front of a song, it’s a good time to be making music.
