Spotify unveil many new personalised playlists from the artists, genres and decades you listen to the most, each filled with music you like and unheard songs Spotify thinks you’ll love.

Spotify is renowned for their algorithm driven playlists such as Discover Weekly and Release Radar. Using machine learning, Spotify analyse every song you listen to, search for, like, share, skip and many other metrics, to learn what you like and introduce you to new music. Spotify’s recommendations always seem to nail listeners’ musical preferences like no other streaming service.

Spotify announced plans to expand their Daily Mix playlists at their Stream On event in February earlier this year. Similar to Spotify’s discovery playlists, Daily Mixes combine both songs Spotify knows you like with new music they think you’ll love. The new mixes being rolled out now go beyond choosing between Daily Mix playlists 1 to 6 with a group of artists that suit your current mood. You can now dive into a specific genre, artist (featuring top hits from the artist and similar artists) or decade. Playlists displayed and the music within vary based on what you listen to most. Where I might get genres such as Funk, Dance/Electronic and Soul, artist mixes from the likes of Gorillaz, Mura Masa and Disclosure, or decades such as 2000s, 2010s and 90s, you will likely get something completely different. I’m seeing six playlists on offer under each of the three categories, with each playlist containing 50 songs, so there should be plenty to keep you grooving.

In a blog post, Spotify say:

  1. Each mix is created with you at the core, based on your listening habits and the artists, genres, and decades you listen to most. They’re rooted in familiarity, meaning that you won’t just hear your favorite artists, but your favorite songs from those artists.
  2. Then, we supplement by adding in songs we think you’ll love, meaning they’ll be filled with the music you have on repeat alongside some fresh picks. So whether you want to jam out to a specific artist or hear more music from another decade, there’s a mix just for you.
  3. Finally, each mix updates frequently, so the possibilities are endless and there’s always something new to discover. They’re designed to grow with you over time, so they’ll take your listening into account to help you discover and dive deeper into your new favorite artist, genre, or decade.

To find the new mixes on the mobile app, tap Search at the bottom, then head to Made for you. On the desktop app, simply head to Made For You in the left hand menu. On the web app, head to open.spotify.com/genre/made-for-x-hub.

The new mixes have started rolling out to all Spotify Free and Premium users globally.
