Jay Z’s Tidal Tripled Subscribers in 6 Months
On the anniversary of it’s first year as Tidal the music streaming service has announced some surprisingly impressive new numbers.
It’s the first anniversary of the celebrity owned Tidal, since it was relaunched by Jay Z from European music streamer Aspiro. It has seen a mixed first year where it’s high quality offerings set it apart as unique but subscriber counts set it way apart from industry leader Spotify. Apple’s streaming service Apple Music launched 3 months after Tidal last year and already has 11 million subscribers.
Things started to turn around for Tidal after October when they announced 1 million subscribers and a benefit concert to celebrate. Since then Tidal have been marking their spot with exclusive content like a TV series, Rihanna’s new album ‘ANTI’ and especially Kanye West’s ‘The Life of Pablo’ which pushed the Tidal app to the top of the app store.
Now Tidal have officially announced that they have 3 million paid users, triple the amount compared to 6 months earlier. With roughly 45% of those subscribed to the premium tier of high quality music for $19.99 Tidal have significantly improved their status as a major service in music streaming.
Along with stats for the service as a whole Tidal revealed that Rihanna’s ANTI was downloaded 1.4 million times in under 24 hours, and Kanye’s The Life of Pablo was streamed 250 million times within ten days of release. Tidal also talked about the success of their exclusive live streaming of events like Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 3 fashion show, which was watched by over 23 million was included.
