Spotify’s billions club is getting larger all the time.

It’s been 7 years since Drake broke new ground and hit the record milestone of a billion streams on Spotify for the first time. His hit single ‘One Dance’ was a streaming first, but now his track is amongst hundreds of others who have passed the 1 billion landmark.

476 songs have surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify as of 25th September, 2023. Spotify’s BILLIONS CLUB playlist shows the tracks which have reached the milestone, revealing the wide array of artists who have hit the impressive number, including: Sia, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, and Arctic Monkeys.

Of those tracks, 43 songs on Spotify have reached 2 billion plays, and two have hit the 3 billion mark. Ed Sheeran was the first to hit 3 billion with ‘Shape of You’ in 2021, joined since only by The Weeknd with Blinding Lights which is now the most popular song on Spotify with over 3.75 billion plays.

As of September 2023, a total of 477 songs have surpassed one billion streams on Spotify, 43 have surpassed two billion, and two have surpassed three billion in the platform’s history.

Whilst Ditto Music CEO Lee Parsons predicts that Spotify’s billions club will feature 500 songs by the end of the year, Apple Music are yet to achieve their first billion mark song. Based on their streaming data, Digital Music News reckons that Apple Music could have their first 1 billion streamed track as soon as November 2023.

Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You is Apple’s big hitter, with around 930 million streams right now. Can a 2-year old song get 70 million streams in 2 months? DMN seem to think so.
