Known for its authentic emulations of analog synthesizers, GForce has unveiled a virtual rendition of the iconic Oberheim OB-X synthesizer.

Originally launched in 1979, the classic OB-X synth holds a special place in the annals of synthesizers, and GForce’s emulation pays homage to its legendary sound.

This is the third Oberheim synth that GForce has remade. Just like with its OB-E and OB-E V2 plugins, GForce has once again demonstrated its commitment to delivering high-quality analog synth emulations.

GForce Oberheim OB-X

With its lush, warm, and rich analogue tones, the original Oberheim OB-X played a pivotal role in shaping the sound of late 1970s and early 1980s music. It was a favourite of artists like Queen, Herbie Hancock, and Depeche Mode, and GForce’s official emulation is a fitting tribute to this iconic synth in 2023.

While GForce has collaborated with Oberheim in the past for synths like the Oberheim OB-E and the Oberheim SEM, this marks their first dedicated emulation of the OB-X, and it doesn’t disappoint.

The new OB-X plugin stays true to the original hardware-based OB-X, faithfully recreating its vintage sound.

GForce has retained the authentic characteristics of the hardware OB-X in its Oberheim OB-X plugin while introducing a host of modern features. Boasting up to 16 voices of polyphony, the GForce OB-X plugin also features monophonic, legato, and unison trigger modes, plus programmable Aftertouch and expanded velocity controls.

However, it doesn’t stop at mere emulation. The plugin brings the classic synth into the modern era with several new features such as an arpeggiator, chord mode with scaler, chorus, stereo delay, and reverb effects.

Furthermore, GForce has prioritised user-friendliness with the Oberheim OB-X plugin, providing a fully resizable user interface for flexibility to accommodate any workflow. Equally important is the preset browser for simplified organization, complete with extensive tagging, sorting, and search capabilities for effortless patch management. The plugin also includes over 400 professional presets for you to use straight out of the box.

GForce’s X-Modifier technology simplifies complex modulations and programmable macros, making sound modulation easy. It offers pre-configured modulation paths through the X-LFO and X-ADSR sections, providing a powerful platform for creating complex yet musical sounds.
