Arturia AstroLab 2.0 update brings deeper sound design to stage keyboards
Arturia’s AstroLab 2.0 firmware update adds new sound editing tools, 67 presets and performance improvements. Here’s what musicians and producers need to know.
Arturia has released AstroLab 2.0, a free firmware update for its AstroLab stage keyboards. The update introduces deeper sound editing capabilities, alongside new sampled instruments and improvements to performance and workflow.
It builds on AstroLab’s existing collection of Arturia virtual instruments, giving musicians more control over their sounds directly from the hardware.
What’s new in the Arturia AstroLab 2.0 update?
Sound Edit brings deeper sound design to AstroLab
The biggest addition is Sound Edit, which lets musicians customise individual instrument parameters directly from the keyboard.
Previously, users could adjust presets through four macro knobs, but more detailed sound design required desktop software. The new editing pages provide access to parameters including envelopes, filters and glide, with adjustments made through the keyboard’s existing controls.
Musicians can also use instrument templates created in Analog Lab as a starting point for building custom sounds.
For performers, this opens up more possibilities for shaping sounds around a particular track or live set without relying on a computer.
67 new presets expand AstroLab’s sound library
AstroLab 2.0 also introduces 67 new presets, adding a wider selection of acoustic and performance-ready instruments.
New sounds include a sampled grand piano featuring eight velocity layers, funk and orchestral brass, pop strings, and upright and electric basses.
These additions give musicians more options for live performances, songwriting and arrangements, particularly when working with a single keyboard across different genres.
Performance improvements and workflow refinements
Alongside its new creative features, AstroLab 2.0 brings several improvements designed to make the keyboard more reliable and responsive.
These include improved sampler polyphony, more reliable Analog Lab connectivity and firmware updating, and a redesigned preset list for easier navigation.
Aftertouch has also been improved on the AstroLab 37, while transposition is now displayed through its octave LEDs.
What does AstroLab 2.0 mean for musicians?
AstroLab 2.0 highlights how firmware updates can extend the creative potential of hardware without requiring musicians to invest in a new instrument.
The addition of deeper sound editing gives performers more control over their sounds, while the expanded preset library offers further inspiration for studio production and live arrangements.
The AstroLab 2.0 firmware update is available for free across all AstroLab keyboards. You can find the update through Arturia’s official AstroLab update page.
