Apple Music’s cheapest plan that worked exclusively with Siri has been retired, to the unhappiness of very few.

In 2021, Apple Music launched a new cheap subscription tier. The Apple Music Voice Plan let you use the music streaming service across your devices only by using Siri. The plan came at just $4.99 per month.

This week, Apple removed their Siri-only voice plan from the available subscriptions. The remaining options for new users and existing subscribers are Student, Individual, and Family plans.

Users who are currently subscribed to Apple Music Voice Plan have had their auto-renewal switched off. This means that as of Wednesday the 1st of November, their plans will end on their next payment date. Users will need to select a new package to continue using Apple Music.

Apple Music’s student tier now takes the spot as cheapest offering. At just a dollar more for $5.99 a month, it’s a bargain deal for a full music streaming service subscription. Student subscriptions come with full access across any devices.

For Apple, focus now moves to expanding their feature set. They wrote: “We are focused on delivering the best, most robust music experience possible for our customers, with features like immersive Spatial Audio, Apple Music Sing with real-time lyrics, intuitive browse and discovery features, and so much more. All Apple Music plans already work seamlessly with Siri, and we will continue to optimize this experience.”

Amazon offer a similar service for Amazon Music named Amazon Music Unlimited. Their plan allows you to save money if you’re willing to use the music service exclusively through Echo devices. So you can’t find tracks on your phone or listen to it on your computer. It seems Amazon’s version is still doing well, as it’s survived before and after Apple Music Voice Plan’s short existence.
