YouTube’s new Avenues series brings established and emerging artists together to explore release strategies, fandom, content and building a career on the platform.

YouTube Music is giving artists a closer look at what it takes to turn early momentum into a lasting music career with its new Avenues 2.0 series.

The show brings established artists and emerging talent together to discuss everything from album rollouts and release strategies to building a visual identity and turning listeners into dedicated fans.

It’s the latest development in YouTube’s wider Avenues initiative, an education and mentorship programme aimed at supporting emerging artists and creators in underrepresented and underserved communities.

What is YouTube Avenues?

Avenues is designed to help emerging artists build the skills needed to turn early musical momentum into a sustainable career. Previously, YouTube took the programme directly into cities to connect with artists in person.

Now, the initiative has expanded to screens with Avenues 2.0, hosted by YouTube Cultural Advisor and podcaster Wallo267 alongside YouTube partner managers.

Each part of the four-part series focuses on a different aspect of building an artist career.

  • The Art of the Rollout features DaBaby and BunnaB discussing how to build anticipation around an album release.
  • World Building on YouTube looks at how artists can create a visual identity and catalogue that gives fans more reasons to explore their work.
  • Release Strategy brings together Rich the Kid and The Paradox to discuss how artists can prepare for and maximise release day.
  • Finally, Fandom with Tobe Nwigwe focuses on turning passive listeners into an active community around an artist.

What can independent artists take from Avenues?

YouTube says the series is designed to give the next generation of artists practical insight into building a sustainable career through the platform.

One of the biggest lessons? Think beyond release day. Your next release shouldn’t just be a post announcing that it’s out. Consider how you can build anticipation before release, give fans something to engage with on the day and keep the conversation going afterwards.

Artists increasingly need to connect their release strategy with their content strategy, and the series follows that line of thinking. One new song can provide weeks of material, from teasers and music videos to behind-the-scenes clips, live performances and Shorts.

A good starting point, though, is making sure the music behind that content is available where your audience is listening.

RouteNote helps distribute your releases to YouTube Music and YouTube Shorts, alongside other major streaming platforms worldwide. That means you can get your music out across multiple services from one distribution upload, while continuing to build your own audience through content.

Avenues puts the focus on building a career, not just a release

Avenues 2.0 highlights what the modern artist journey looks like. Getting a song online is only one part of the job.

Artists also need to think about content, community, release planning, branding and how different platforms work together.

YouTube says the Avenues network already includes more than 1,000 alumni, and the new series gives artists everywhere access to some of the ideas being shared through the programme.

For independent artists and labels, that’s a useful reminder: every release is an opportunity to build something bigger than a stream count.
