All Facebook videos are now Reels
Facebook is simplifing the creation, sharing and discovery of videos on the social media platform, with just one format – Reels.
Previously, creators on Facebook would have to choose whether to share a video as a feed post or Reel, depending on length and format, with two different methods for each. Now, Meta has announced all videos going forward will be shared as Reels, making Facebook the “home for all types of video – short, long, and Live.” Until this update, Reels on Facebook were limited to just 90 seconds.

This change will not effect older videos, with only new videos being shared as Reels. Existing videos will stay on your profile or page.
With the addition of the Reels feed recommending your videos to millions, Reels can be a powerful tool for sharing your content to new viewers. However, creators still have full control of who can see their Reels, whether that’s everyone, friends, or a select group. By default, Reels will be shared to the same audience as their Feed posts. The first time a Reels is shared after the change, a prompt will pop-up to confirm your settings.

Facebook launched a fullscreen videos tab last year. This tab will now become the Reels tab. Meta says that you will still be recommended the same types of videos despite the change.
This change is rolling out globally to all profiles and Pages. Instagram made a similar change to simplify video formats in 2022. Earlier this year, Instagram extended the length of a Reel to three minutes.
