Waves Audio has introduced the Silk Vocal plugin, designed to simplify and accelerate the vocal mixing process by combining EQ and dynamics processing.

Offering an array of features that cater to both novices and seasoned audio engineers, Silk Vocal looks like a promising addition to every artist and producer’s plugin library.

Innovative tools for intuitive vocal processing

Silk Vocal is designed to detect and address resonances automatically and presents users with a user-friendly interface to fine-tune the results. Waves promise the Silk Vocal plugin boasts an advanced engine capable of analyzing 2000 frequency bands!

In its default view, Silk Vocal presents an EQ section featuring Low, Mid, and High controls.

Each of these sections is equipped with a visual display of targeted resonances, allowing users to control the processing applied in each range with precision.

Firstly, the Low control even addresses potential issues picked up during recording. They include the proximity effect and room-related low-frequency problems, while the High section boasts tools that combat harsh sibilances and various modes for tailored results.

The Mid control moreover focuses on critical mid-range content and enhances the character of the voice without introducing harshness.

Following the EQ section, Silk Vocal boasts a Dynamics fader which provides a single-control compressor for reducing the dynamics and achieving a consistent, upfront vocal sound.

Furthermore, Silk Vocal operates with automatic gain compensation by default and ensures the output level adjusts dynamically as EQ settings change.

Built-in Speed and Precision controls also allow you to adjust the attack, release, ratio, and bandwidth (Q) of the EQ processing.

For producers that revel in detailed, hands-on control, Silk Vocal offers an Advanced Settings view with additional features such as a 60Hz high-pass filter, a gate, and a wet/dry mix control.

Silk Vocal Live: real-time processing for live settings

Anyone who buys the Silk Vocal plugin will also receive a license for Silk Vocal Live (a real-time version optimized for low latency).

Silk Vocal Live utilizes minimum phase curves instead of linear phase. As a result, it’s more suitable for monitoring during tracking and compatible with Waves’ SoundGrid systems for live performances.

Silk Vocal is available in VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin formats and is compatible with Windows 10 and macOS 10.15 and above.
