TikTok expands their “Add to Music App” feature to 163 more countries, as consumers and artists around the world rejoice!

Last November, TikTok added an “Add to Music App” button to videos using official music on the short-form video platform. The following month, the feature expanded to 21 countries. Now, TikTok are rolling out “Add to Music App” to 163 more countries. See the full list below.

“Add to Music App” allows users to quickly add a track they hear in a TikTok video to their library on Apple Music, Amazon Music or Spotify. This is a great addition for consumers and artists alike. Consumers can easily save a track they like, while this reduced friction should see artists with viral tracks increase their streams. Previously users would need to switch apps and search to find the track manually.

There are a couple of other reasons for TikTok to make this change. For starters, this will no doubt sweeten their relationship with major labels, in the hopes that UMG may return. It also acts as good market research for TikTok to see whether users are interested in streaming full-length tracks, as they continue to rollout their own music streaming service, TikTok Music.

How to add music from TikTok to your music library

  • Once you’ve found a video with a song you like, tap the spinning circle in the lower right corner
  • Tap Add to music app
  • Pick your preferred music app
  • This will automatically add the track to a new TikTok Songs playlist. To change this, tap Edit.
  • Tap Create new or choose an existing playlist

Once you’ve chosen your favourite music app once, TikTok will remember this for next time. You can change your preference in the TikTok settings.

With Add to Music App, we are streamlining the music discovery experience for both TikTok users and artists. Music fans are embracing the opportunity to save music from TikTok directly to their favorite music streaming services, driving music discovery and helping more tracks to break through and become hits. We are really excited to be bringing the feature to millions more music fans around the world, providing even more opportunities for music discovery and consumption, and for artists to reach new audiences and grow their careers.
