Summer 2016’s most streamed songs revealed by Spotify

Spotify have revealed which songs people have been listening to the most this summer with Drake’s ‘One Dance’ unsurprisingly clinching the top spot.

The summer is coming to an end and to take a look back at the summer just passed Spotify have compiled the most listened to tracks on their streaming service between June 1st and August 31st, 2016.

It’s been an incredible year for Canadian rapper Drake as Spotify reveal that his tracks were the 1st, 2nd and 5th most streamed songs in the US. Whilst globally he’s still ahead with ‘One Dance’ at number 1, the 2nd spot was taken by Calvin Harris and Rihanna’s track ‘This is What You Came For’. Back in the US Rihanna held her own, appearing on Drake’s ‘Too Good’ at number 2 with her track ‘Needed Me’ the 3rd most streamed  in the US and her collab with Calvin Harris just behind in the 4th spot.

Spotify’s resident music trends expert, Shanon Cook said: “Drake’s ‘One Dance’ is impossibly catchy and by late Spring had positioned itself as the one to beat. Other playlist staples like Sia’s feelgood song ‘Cheap Thrills’, The Chainsmokers’ standout track ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ and Calvin Harris’ confident club jam ‘This Is What You Came For’ helped shape a summer sound that was upbeat, edgy and memorable.”
