Spotify DJ is your very own personalized disc jockey in your pocket, that plays curated music and provides commentary between tracks.

Spotify just launched an interesting new feature that we’ve not seen from other music streaming services before. Over the past decade, personalization has elevated Spotify above the competition, providing listening with the right music for the right moment, whether it’s old favourites or new songs it knows you’ll love.

Spotify’s latest feature, simply called DJ, uses their powerful personalization tech, along with recently acquired Sonantic and OpenAI, the technology behind ChatGPT, to choose what to play and when. These combine to bring users curated music, as well as commentary around the tracks and artists from “a stunningly realistic voice.”

Getting bored of the songs DJ is offering up? Simply tap the DJ button to switch up the genre, artist and mood. The more you listen, and tell it what you like and dislike, the better Spotify DJ’s recommendations get.

Spotify DJ is rolling out in beta across the US and Canada, for English-speaking Premium users. Here’s how to use the new feature:

  • Head to your Music Feed on Home in the Spotify mobile app on your iOS or Android device.
  • Tap Play on the DJ card.
  • Let Spotify do the rest! The DJ will serve a lineup of music alongside short commentary on the songs and artists, picked just for you.
  • Not feeling the vibe? Just hit the DJ button at the bottom right of the screen to be taken to a different genre, artist, or mood.
