Spotify rolls out Apple Watch support with no phone

You’ll soon be able to go for a run without your phone, but still stream your favourite music and podcasts directly from your Apple Watch.

Previously, the Spotify Watch app essentially worked as a remote, requiring constant connection with your phone for music playback. The new update allows Spotify users to stream music directly to the Apple Watch over WiFi or cellular. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to download music on the watch for offline listening.

The update is currently in beta and is in the process of a broader rollout.

We’re focused on developing experiences that enable users to listen to Spotify wherever and whenever they want — regardless of the device or platform. After an initial testing period, we are now rolling out streaming capabilities for Spotify on the Apple Watch.

This is a great addition for those who prefer to workout without a phone. Just ensure you’re somewhere with WiFi or you own a Cellular Apple Watch.
