Spotify’s AI DJ is expanding once again, with four new personas and a wider global rollout.

Since Spotify launched DJ in beta in 2023, a lot has changed. Once again, the platform is giving its AI DJ another major upgrade, introducing four brand-new personas while expanding the feature into more countries worldwide.

In case you’re not familiar, Spotify DJ combines personalised recommendations with AI-generated commentary and is very much designed to feel like a radio host, rather than simply hitting shuffle.

Now, Spotify is taking things a step further by tailoring DJ to different languages and cultures with a fresh lineup of localised personalities.

Spotify introduces four new AI DJ personas

Up until now, Spotify’s AI DJ has only been available in English and Spanish. With this latest expansion, that’s finally changing.

Spotify has unveiled four new AI DJ personas, each designed to better reflect the language, culture, and listening habits of different audiences around the world.

The new additions include:

  • Maïa (French)
  • Ben (German)
  • Alex (Italian)
  • Dani (Brazilian Portuguese).

An expanded rollout too

Alongside the new personas, Spotify is also bringing DJ to more users around the world. Premium subscribers in countries including Austria, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, South Korea, Switzerland, and more can now access the feature. That now means the feature is available in more than 75 markets globally.

DJ has come a long way

The expanded rollout follows a steady stream of upgrades since DJ launched.

At first, the personalised DJ tool only added commentary to its music recommendations, and was only available in select markets. Last year, Spotify made the tool more interactive by enabling Premium users to make voice and text requests in more than 60 markets. More recently, the feature also expanded to Premium users in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, and Japan.

How to switch your DJ persona

Fancy switching your Spotify DJ to a different persona? Thankfully, the process is pretty straightforward. Head to DJ from Spotify’s home page or simply search for “DJ’ within the app. From there, tapping the three-dot menu inside the DJ card to switch personas to your preferred language.

Bigger picture

Spotify’s latest update is yet another example of how AI-discovery tools are continuing to gain momentum across the music industry.

Over the past year, we’ve already seen Spotify partner with both Claude and ChatGPT to drive music discovery experiences. Elsewhere, ChatGPT can now identify songs using a Shazam integration, while Ticketmaster recently partnered with ChatGPT for AI-powered event and ticket discovery.

As streaming platforms continue leaning further into AI-driven discovery, the way listeners find new music is rapidly evolving. As an artist, that means getting your music across platforms everywhere matters more than ever.
