Spotify DJ now takes voice requests
Spotify adds a new layer of personalization to its DJ feature, allowing Premium users to shape their listening sessions with voice commands.
Spotify is turning up the dial on its AI DJ feature. Starting today, Premium users in more than 60 markets will be able to make voice requests, adding a new layer of personalization to your listening experience.
Launched in 2023, Spotify DJ has become a hit with users thanks to its ability to blend AI-driven music recommendations with added commentary. The DJ acts as a host who knows your music tastes inside out, curating a mix of favorite tracks and new discoveries.
Now, Spotify is stepping things up. You can ask DJ to play music based on mood, activity, or even by artist, album, genre, or decade- just like making a request to a real-life DJ. For example, you might ask DJ to “play jazz music to start my Sunday morning,” and it will deliver a listening session tailored to your request and tastes.
If you’re Spotify Premium subscriber in a supported market, making requests with DJ is easy:
- Open the Spotify app and head to the Search tab.
- Search for ‘DJ’ and hit play.
- Hold down the DJ button in the right corner until you hear a beep and see “listening” appear on screen.
- Say your request- the more specific, the better. The DJ will serve a tailored lineup matched with commentary.
- Fancy a change? Just press down and hold the DJ button again to make a new request.

Spotify has continually invested a more personalized experience for its users, with this new feature giving users more control over their listening sessions. Now, listeners can shape their music discovery simply by making requests with DJ.
