Sorry Beyoncé, Taylor Swift just stole your new record
Just weeks after Beyoncé broke records with ‘Cowboy Carter’, Taylor Swift stepped in to snatch it back with ‘THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT’.
Pop fans have been eating good in 2024 so far. Beyoncé dropped her hit record ‘Cowboy Carter’ in March and immediately broke records on Spotify and beyond. Beyoncé grabbed the title of most-streamed album in a single day for 2024 on Spotify on release.
Who else but Taylor Swift could step out and immediately grab the title back, and then some. Her new record ‘THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT’ became the first album in Spotify history to have over 300 million streams in a single day. It also took Beyoncé’s claim as the most-streamed album in a single day in 2024 within 12 hours of release.
To enhance the furore around her album, Swift released an entire second side to the record just hours after its midnight release. Sending Swifties into a frenzy and boosting streams, this no doubt helped her record to jump from what would already be extraordinary streams to a hugely discussed event.
As if that wasn’t enough, Swift took the record for most-streamed song in a single day in Spotify history with her single ‘Fortnight’ featuring Post Malone. Swift has a history of breaking records on Spotify: Her 2022 album ‘Midnights’ also became the most-streamed album in a single day at the time, going on to become the most-streamed artist in a single day at the time.
Not enough for her? No, she went on to be the most-streamed artist of 2023 despite not releasing a new studio record. She did, however, release re-recorded versions of a number of her old hit albums.
So, we’re sorry, Beyoncé. We love you and ‘Cowboy Carter’ but no-one can stand up against Taylor Swift and her dedicated fanbase.
