As Ed Sheeran gets knocked off the top spot, there’s a new most-played song on Spotify! How does the top ten stand as of January 2023?

Recently we’ve been looking at Spotify’s most followed artists and those with the most monthly listeners. Spotify keep this streaming data public and you can find a breakdown of the top 100 most-streamed songs, as well as other listening data on Wikipedia here.

There’s a new king of Spotify! Since 31 December 2022, The Weeknd’s Blinding Lights is the most-streamed song of all time on Spotify. The synth-pop track was released just over three years ago and has since pulled in a whopping 3.335 billion plays, above Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You, with 3.333 billion streams, which held the position for a record 1,928 days (over five years!). These two tracks are the only two songs on Spotify to reach 3 billion streams.

At number 3 is Tones And I who takes the top spot for the most streamed track by a female artist. Post Malone takes the top spot for the most tracks in the top 10 with 2.
