A new music startup is being quietly developed by the entrepreneurial co-founder of LoveFilm with assistance from a 10 year veteran at Apple on iTunes.

Saul Klein, one of the minds behind the founding of Skype and LoveFilm – now owned by Amazon, is secretly working on a music startup called Platoon. Alongside Denzyl Feigelson, an Apple consultant that has worked on iTunes for 13 years and been with the team since inception, the two are developing Platoon.

Also onboard is early stage investor at LocalGlobe, Ben Grabiner who whilst speaking to Business Insider refused to reveal any information about the startup. At the moment the only online presence of the platform is their website platoon.ai which simply reads “Platoon – A platform for fearless creatives. Coming soon.”

On the website they have links to a contact form and an iTunes playlist created by a Lucie Watson featuring 35 songs. The playlist titled ‘Platoon Artists’ features artists such as Jorja Smith, Billie Eilish, O Mer, Azekel, Jacob Banks, Believe in Giants, Another MP and Fono. There’s no indication of how these artists tie to Platoon or what Platoon’s vision for the company is but it’s clear it will work with artists somehow.

The startup is based in Kings Cross, London at Tileyard Studios, home to the production studios of various artists including Mark Ronson, Chase & Status, Basement Jaxx, and The Prodigy.

Platoon were curiously involved in putting on an event at Lily Cole’s properties last month, with notable figures like comedian Eddie Izzard, footballer Rio Ferdinand, indie band Bastille and solo artist Maverick Sabre that encouraged the youth to vote in the EU referendum.

It will be interesting to see where Platoon goes with it’s company and with an established website domain and promotional playlists it seems like a reveal could be on the horizon. For now no-one from Platoon is willing to comment.
