The rap beef of the century may be over but as the dust settles, Kendrick has just taken Drake’s crown to beat him down further.
The back and forth between Kendrick Lamar and Drake earlier this year was one of the spiciest events of 2024. Seeing each rapper get progressively more heated to the point of dropping diss tracks back to back within 10 minutes.
Whilst the consensus is that Kendrick won pretty hard, he can’t help but run victory laps around Drake. In June, Kendrick brought some of hip-hop’s biggest names up on stage to perform his brutal diss track ‘Not Like Us’ five times in a row.
As if it couldn’t get worse for Drake, Kendrick has now taken his Spotify crown in one final blow. Drake has long been one of the most-listened to artists on Spotify and is the second most-streamed artist on Spotify.
With his recent demise in the rap beef, Kendrick has just taken him for monthly listeners for the first time. Drake is now the 14th most-streamed artist on Spotify for monthly listens. Kendrick is speeding past in 12th place with over 74,500,000 monthly listeners. Kendrick rose from 13th place since yesterday.
To give Drake his due, if he were to drop new music then his listeners would probably jump up. The meteoric success of ‘Not Like Us’ is also playing a huge part in Kendrick’s ascent up the Spotify charts. Regardless, it’s just yet one more win for Kendrick against Drake who has remained quiet since the fallout of their back and forth.
In May, Kendrick stole another title off of Drake on Spotify. For 3 years, Drake held the title of the song with the most single-day North American streams for his collab with Lil Baby ‘Girls Want Girls’. Kendrick took that from him with his diss track against the very man whose record he stole, gaining 6.59 million streams in one day for ‘Not Like Us’.
