Joe Rogan and Spotify are staying together for at least another few years, though he’s allowed to flirt with other platforms again now.

In 2020, Joe Rogan signed a huge deal with Spotify to make his popular podcast available exclusively on the music streaming platform. It’s been a turbulent ride for both Joe Rogan and Spotify since then, but as Spotify say, he “remains podcasting king”.

The two have just announced another multi-year partnership, distributing The Joe Rogan Experience on Spotify for more years to come. However, Joe Rogan’s podcast is no longer exclusive to Spotify. Their new deal will see The Joe Rogan Experience coming to other platforms.

Over the years, the partnership has been tumultuous. Spotify refused to distribute a number of episodes that featured controversial guests, though confusingly keeping other controversial guests. Searches for Joe Rogan dropped after the exclusive deal, suggesting that the partnership might have impacted his popularity.

When the podcast executive behind the deal with Joe Rogan, Lauren Jarvis, left Spotify it was thought that maybe they would part ways when their partnership ended this year. Whilst Joe Rogan will be available on other platforms moving forward, it seems the two still hold each other somewhat close.

The Joe Rogan Experience has released 2,200 episodes to date. Speaking of how he has evolved since beginning the podcast in 2009, Rogan said: “I definitely sucked at it when I first started. I was curious, but I didn’t understand how to make a conversation flow. I didn’t know when to shut up and listen, and I didn’t know how to make someone comfortable so that you can get the most out of their perspective.

“I’ve learned how to assist the conversation’s flow instead of waiting for my turn to talk. I learned how to be fully locked in with what the other person is saying. A lot of what helps is that I’ve done it for so many hours and learned how to do it better over trial and error, but also that I only have people on the show that I’m genuinely interested in talking to.”

In the announcement, Joe Rogan shares and discusses his Green Room playlist. The playlist is a collection of songs for listening to in the green room; the lounge where comedians and musicians hang out before and after performing.

It’s an eclectic mix with over 15 hours of music. Rogan explains: “I love the vibe you get from shit hopping from Die Antwoord to Nina Simone right to Wu-Tang Clan and Led Zeppelin. It’s just a fun list of cool music and I love it.”

You can listen to most episodes of The Joe Rogan Experience on Spotify.
