IK Multimedia’s J-60 plugin emulation will usually cost you $50, but you can get it for free right now for a limited time.

The coveted Roland Juno-60 has seen software emulation after emulation, including from Roland themselves, and that train doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Despite Roland releasing its software version of its Juno-60 synth on Roland Cloud, third-party plugins seem to be just as popular as the official version.

The Juno 60 was manufactured between 1982 & 1984 as a more affordable synth compared to the Juno-60 Jupiter-8 – and it went on to set precedents and define an era.

It’s time for you to bring the iconic sound of the 80s to your music with IK Multimedia’s J-60 plugin. The J-60 is the latest emulation of the coveted synth from IK Multimedia and you can currently get it for free.

With a total of 78 instrument patches which the team at IK captured from the original Juno-60, the sound of the J-60 plugin is made up of 2,000 samples and over 800MB of content. Furthermore, the J-60 stays true to the original unit with the inclusion of the definitive Juno-60 chorus effect – an effect with only two presets that sounds fantastic out of the box.

IK Multimedia’s Juno-60 emulation is in its IK Syntronik 2 instruments pack which has a free tier (Syntronik 2 CS) but there are paid versions which offer more content and functionality. It’s powered by a multi-sample engine and the software developer offers a number of paid expansion packs for the instrument, including this J-60 plugin.

Furthermore, Syntronik’s synthesis engine – paid – makes it possible to customize source sounds within the instrument. As a result, you can create your own modulation, apply custom filters, and make use of a variety of effects. BPB notes, “The plugin offers several filter types, so you can mix and match various models with the patch you’re currently working on. You can also fine-tune the Filter Drive parameter to add a bit of saturation to the signal path,”.

Nevertheless, the layout of the J-60 is super simple so both synthesis beginners & professionals will be at home quickly.
