The iPhone’s camera can now record video whilst continuing audio playback for video recording that captures your music or audio.

iPhone users will probably know the familiar feeling of pressing record and the sudden end of your music playback. In many cases, it’s a good thing. You don’t want the moment you’re capturing shrouded in the sound of smartphone music playback.

But, there are moments when you do want it. Perhaps you’re recording a video set to the music you’re listening to or the song completes the vibe of the scene you’re capturing. iOS 18 brings an update that allows you to keep the music going as you press record on your video.

iPhone users with the latest iOS upgrade can now select to continue audio playback as they record video. This is a great option for if you’re recording something in time to a song and need a reference, as you can overlay the song in better quality after recording.

You can also keep the video with the audio recorded from your iPhone’s playback, however the quality will of course be diminished. Of course, apps like TikTok and YouTube Shorts let you record video to the music you want to use but Apple’s addition of the audio playback feature offers users more options.

There was technically an option to record video with audio playback on older versions of iOS, which will still allow a workaround for those who can’t update to iOS 18. From the Camera, users can hold down the shutter button to begin recording 1440p video which doesn’t interrupt audio playback.
