Google Assistant add support for preferred third-party podcast services such as Spotify

“Hey Google, play The Joe Rogan Experience podcast”. An update to the Google Assistant app allows users to set a default podcast platform.

The update makes playing podcasts via Google Assistant from service that aren’t Google Podcasts possible, starting with Spotify Podcasts.

The Google Assistant update was spotted by Android Police. Find Podcasts under the Google Assistant setting. From here you can choose your default podcast service.

The update appears to be available on iPhone and Android for Spotify Free and Premium subscribers.

This is a very useful feature for listening on your phone or Google Assistant-enabled smart speakers, especially as Spotify continues to buy exclusive access to more podcasts. Hopefully we’ll see more podcast providers here soon.
