Pioneer DJ have announced the next FLX DJ performance controller, the DDJ-FLX10.

The new DDJ-FLX10 is a 4-channel performance DJ controller for both rekordbox and Serato DJ Pro. Built upon the infamous DDJ1000, the new FLX1000 gives DJs a swathe of new features with all-new Track Separation technology taking the lead.

Pioneer DDJ-FLX10 performance controller

Firstly, let’s talk about Pioneer’s new Track Separation technology. Now, DJs can easily create mash-ups of tracks loaded on the decks and create live remixes for a dancefloor full of feet shuffling their way around.

Track Separation

In practice, you can load original tracks onto a deck and use the dedicated track separation buttons to isolate vocals, drums, and instruments before merging these elements of different tracks together. I for one am very excited about this!

The three buttons, adequately labelled “Vocals”, “Drums”, and “Instruments”, allow you to manipulate these corresponding channels (where the instrument channel also includes bass and synths). Each button is color-coded buttons, so you’ll always be in the know of what’s playing.

Moreover, you can control the level of the vocals, drums, and instruments independently or mute them entirely. You can apply effects to them too, and even transfer an isolated part of a track to another deck.

New jog wheel displays

Now, you can customize what information you see on the jog wheels too so you won’t need to look at your computer screen even once. You can choose from 4 modes where some show 3 Band Waveforms, though this is exclusive to rekordbox.

  1. Deck info mode

Shows the information about the deck, including the Overall Waveform. However, this mode shows the virtual deck of Serato DJ Pro when using when using Serato DJ Pro.
  2. Waveform mode

Next, this mode shows the zoomed waveforms for 2 decks at a time.
  3. Artwork display

Thirdly, Artwork display presents the artwork for the loaded track.
  4. DJ Logo display

Finally, the DJ Logo mode displays your own logo or on each deck. Bear in mind that you’ll have to use the Image Transfer Tool for PC/Mac to use this mode.

The DDJ-FLX10 also has multicolored rings around each wheel and these indicate the different parts of the track that are playing when you’re using the Track Separation tool! But you can even customize the colors and make them your own!

Mix Point Link

Next, the Mix Point Link is a new feature for seamless transitions. As described by Pioneer DJ, it’s a new playback concept in rekordbox that empowers you to create musical progressions by linking mix points in tracks. As a result, the next song will play at the perfect moment without the need for counting down or pressing play manually.

Examples that demonstrate how handy this feature will be include setting the next track to start from the beginning of a melody part once the vocal of the current track finishes. This ensures a seamless transition without anything clashing.

Consequently, you’re free to create mash-ups with tracks and apply effects. In fact, you can monitor your Mix Point Links and vocal position analysis information on the jog wheels!

DMX output for rekordbox Lighting function

The DDJ FLX-10 allows you to enhance your performances with lighting effects to match the mood of the tracks that you’re playing. The DDJ-FLX10 features a DMX output on the DDJ-FLX10 so you don’t need a DMX interface, and you can utilize the rekordbox Lighting function after connecting DMX-compatible equipment and create custom lighting effects. And you can set the software to adapt the color and movement of the lights to progress with the music too!

Evolved MAGVEL FADER 4-sensor system

Additionally, the level faders have seen improvements. Where originally the faders utilized a 2-sensor system on the DDJ-1000, the new faders on the DDJ-FLX10 use a 4-sensor system. Now, you can make more precise volume adjustments, from the tiniest to the largest, and the level of audio will correspond with more accuracy.

Additional features

Like on the DDJ-1000 unit, the 8 back-lit rubber performance pads allows you to trigger Hot Cues, apply Pad FX, trigger samples, and utilize the groovy Beat Jump feature. Additionally, the jog wheels allow you to keep an eye on Mix Point Link and rekordbox vocal position analysis information, as well as Performance Pad status

Another new feature is the USB-C connectivity. Whereas before before the DDJ-1000 used a USB to MIDI, the DDJ-FLX10 allows you t connect your PC or Mac with the controller USB Type-C port.

Bundled is a A voucher for the Serato Pitch ‘n Time DJ Expansion Pack is included, which enables key shifting and key syncing with perfect audio quality. And, finally, you’ll be notified automatically when any firmware updates become available.
