Boy George joins an ever growing list of artists and musicians selling their music via the cryptocurrency NFT’s.

Boy George has hailed himself as a “crypto maniac” as he lists new music and art as Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). The prolific artist has signed a deal with cryptocurrency trading site crypto.com to produce content for their new NFT platform.

Speaking on the deal Boy George said: “My role models were both artistic types and hard-working types. I’ve painted myself and others. I have painted myself into a corner. I love metaphors and mystery and crypto sounds like klepto so that makes me a crypto maniac.

“Art is like a partner? Can you live with it? Digital art is a new emotion and it can be very musical. I’m mixing all of the things I do together, music, art, fashion, poetry, and anything else it leads to. I have stopped refusing to be influenced.”

Other artists such as Snoop Dog, viral sea shanty singer Nathan Evans, and Lionel Richie have also signed exclusive deals with crypto.com.

You’ve likely heard a lot about NFT’s in the last month with Kings of Leon kicking the trend off by listing their latest album as an NFT. This was followed by a litany of other artists and Elon Musk teasing that he’d release his NFT themed techno track as an NFT, he decided against it in the end.

As time goes by it will be interesting to see if NFT’s are a trend and a way of artists making a quick buck or a legit way of purchasing art and music. Either way, there are a lot of artists using NFT’s and the money being thrown around is pretty bonkers.
