Triller hits number 1 on the App Store in 50 countries without spending a dollar on marketing
Short video app and TikTok competitor Triller, pulls in over 250 million downloads, pushing it to the top spot in all categories of 50 markets including USA, UK, Russia, Brazil, Germany, France and Australia.
Shortly after TikTok’s ban took place in India, the app shot to the top of India’s App Store. Worldwide, the app’s downloads increased by over 20 times in the last week. CEO Mike Lu announced the news in a LinkedIn post:
We couldn’t be more thrilled for this recognition and are excited to be embraced with such diversity. It aligns with our guiding principle: Triller- where you do you.
Mike Lu, CEO, Triller
Triller has managed to raise between $200m and $300m from investors such as Snoop Dogg, The Weeknd, Marshmello, Lil Wayne, YoungThug, Kendrick Lamar, Baron Davis, Tyga, TI, Jake Paul and Troy Cartner.
Last week saw prominent TikTok star Josh Richards with over 20 million followers join the Triller team, appointed as Chief Strategy Officer, with Griffin Johnson, Noah Beck and Anthony Reeves also signing on as Triller advisors. They undoubtedly brought millions of new users to the app. Triller also recently secured exclusive streaming rights of Mike Tyson’s new docuseries on his return to the sport.
This comes as TikTok faces uncertainty, with evidence showing the app will likely either be banned or bought by Microsoft in the US come mid-September.
