Switching to Apple Music is now easier than ever, as Apple’s library import tool becomes available basically everywhere around the world.

Apple Music’s transfer tool goes worldwide

Apple Music has now made its playlist and library transfer tool available across the globe. The feature makes it easy for listeners to move their saved music from competing streaming platforms straight into Apple Music

The feature was initially tested in February, before a limited rollout to Australia and New Zealand in May. Last month, further expansion saw the tool reach more markets, including the US, UK, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, and Mexico.

Now the tool is available worldwide. The only exceptions are China, Myanmar, and Russia, according to Apple’s support docs.

How it works

Regardless of where you’re switching from or the device you’re using, you’ll first need an active Apple Music subscription. Here’s how you can import your library to Apple Music:

On iPhone, iPad, or Android

  • Find Apple Music in Settings (or within Apple Music app on Android)
  • Tap ‘Transfer Music from Other Music Services’
  • Sign into the streaming platform you’re moving from, from the list provided
  • Pick the music you want to transfer
  • Tap ‘Add to Library’

On the web

  • Visit music.apple.com and sign into your Apple Music account
  • Click your profile photo (top-right)
  • Select ‘Transfer Music’
  • Choose what you want to move
  • Tap ‘Add to Library’

Apple will then try to match your chosen tracks with its own catalog. If something doesn’t line up, you’ll see a message saying “Some Music Needs Review” with 30 days to approve alternate versions.

Note: Only personal playlists can be moved. Editorial or third-party playlists need to be manually recreated before they can be transferred.

A powerful move for Apple Music

For Apple, this is a smart move in the streaming wars. One of the biggest hurdles for users considering a switch is the fear of losing their carefully curated playlists. By making the transition painless, Apple lowers the barrier for anyone thinking about moving from Spotify, Amazon Music, or elsewhere.
