Are Zoomers on Twitter? Hah, BeReal; they have no Pinterest in it. But are they still using Facebook or is the app’s popularity going TikTok?

Everyone says that Facebook is dead and it’s only old people who use it now. X (the platform formerly known as Twitter) has become weird, and TikTok fights with YouTube Shorts for relevance. In the war of attention over the most digital generation ever, who wins?

Pew Research reveal the data as to which social media platforms Gen Z (those aged roughly 18-29) are using the most. After finding out that Gen Z still uses AM/FM Radio for 20% of their music listening, we thought we couldn’t be shocked by anything again. However, the results are still enlighteningly surprising.

The results confirm what has long been held true, that YouTube is unparalleled for the attention of Zoomers. Pew Research reveal that a whopping 93% of U.S. adults aged 18-29 say they use YouTube. The video platform dominates for use, with Instagram in second place dropping all the way to just 78% of the demographic’s usage.

In a surprising third place is Facebook, which 67% of the respondents say they use. Many forget the popularity of Facebook, deeming its heyday over as it has become less relevant with younger audiences. It clearly still holds sway as it beats out the two platforms you might think dominate Gen Z’s attention, Snapchat and TikTok which came in fourth and fifth respectively.

Pinterest has a respectable portion of attention in 6th place, with 45% of U.S. adults aged 18-29 saying they use the image/video sharing board. Reddit’s forums reportedly take less prevalence than the image sharing board, but only just with 44% of respondents saying they used it.

The list then trails off with X/Twitter in 8th place followed by LinkedIn, Whatsapp, and finally at the bottom BeReal, which saw just 12% usage. So, traditional social media apps may be here to stick around a little longer than we thought. Don’t worry grandpa, you’re not old because you use Facebook – you’re just old because you’re 80.
