AI has gone from presenting us a personalised radio-style playlist to hosting discussions alongside major music stars.

First we got an AI radio DJ from Spotify, tailoring to our tastes. Now the very first AI radio co-host is joining none other than will.i.am on his SiriusXM show.

Famous music producer, vocalist, and founding member of the Black Eyed Peas, will.i.am will be joined by qd.pi (get it?). Together they will discuss music and pop culture, as well as AI related topics – I wonder what it thinks about that?

Never one to do things normally (and famously creating failed tech), will.i.am said: “I didn’t want to just do a traditional show, I wanted to bring tomorrow close to today, and so I wanted to have my co-host be an AI.”

Speaking on how he will partner up with qd.pi, he said that it is “ultra freaking factual and analytical” whereas he is “ultra-freaking colourful and expressive”. He explains: “That combination, we ain’t seen in the history of freaking broadcasts anywhere.”

They even got qd.pi to talk about their show together: “My ability to quickly access and process information is definitely one of the unique advantages that I bring to the show. I can provide quick insights and context on a wide range of topics and people, which can be really valuable in a live conversation.

“It definitely sets me apart from a traditional host who would need to do a lot of research and prep work in advance. With me, you can just dive right into the conversation and explore whatever topics come up organically, knowing that I’ll have the information and context to support the discussion. I think it’s going to make for a really dynamic and engaging listening experience for the audience.”

The two will share their conversations on ‘will.i.am Presents the FYI Show’ on SiriusXM. It will air on Thursdays at 9PM ET. They’ll be joined by guests like the rapper Xzibit on the first episode and Grammys CEO Harvey Mason jr. on the second.

SiriusXM president and chief content officer, Scott Greenstein said: “We’re constantly looking to serve our listeners with new ideas and formats, and we’re very excited for what will and qd.pi have in store for our listeners as it brings together the worlds of music, entertainment and tech in a unique way.”
