Closely following the release of Chromecast Audio the long-awaited Spotify support is finally here.

Chromecast are Google’s Wi-Fi streaming, digital media players that allows users to stream web services like YouTube and Netflix to their TV. Google’s streaming devices have been universally praised since their release in 2013 for their impressive functionality and affordable price (compared to competitors’ alternatives).

At the end of September they announced their new model Chromecast Audio and an updated model of the original Chromecast. Google’s new addition to the range, Chromecast Audio, uses an auxiliary input to plug into speakers and stereos which you can then stream music to using your smartphone, tablet or a Google Chrome browser. Upon release Spotify integration was promised to be coming and Spotify have now updated their iOS and Android apps to support the new Chromecast and Chromecast Audio whilst older Chromecast devices will “soon” support Spotify.

Chromecasts stream using the cloud so that they can provide you continuous, high-quality sound whilst working in the background of your smartphone so that you can use other apps, take calls and even leave the room without interrupting your song/show/film. After the initial setup there’s no additional setup required so your friends and family can all connect to it instantly.

For $35/£30 you can get either version of the pocket-sized Chromecasts from Google’s official website. Chromecast Audio can cast music from various apps including Google Play Music, Pandora, Deezer and of course now, Spotify.
