Spotify Jam is now available for Android Auto
After recently being announced, the interactive Spotify experience is now hitting the road.
Revealed back in May at Google’s I/O developer conference, Spotify Jam is now available for Android Auto thanks to a new Spotify update for Android according to 9to5Google. It brings collaborative Spotify listening into the car for the first time, and marks one of the first major updates to use Android Auto’s new flexible media app design.
How does Spotify Jam work in the car?
The most noticeable feature of the update is the introduction of Spotify Jam to Android Auto. Spotify Jam lets multiple users add songs to a shared queue in real time- perfect for road trips with friends.
On Android Auto, the Jam icon can be found within the corner of the Now Playing screen. Tapping it displays a QR code, which passengers can scan to join the session. From there, they can see what’s playing and add songs directly to the queue. Meanwhile, the driver retains full control and can remove any unwanted guests from the Jam via the infotainment system.

More Spotify upgrades for Android Auto
In addition to Jam, Spotify’s Android Auto app has a few other useful new features. There’s a now clearer “Downloaded” section to help users find offline tracks quickly- hand for when signal drops mid-journey. Spotify also added a new floating Search shortcut that opens within Spotify, letting you browse directly within the app instead of relying solely on the Google Assistant to search.
Where is it available and how to get it
Spotify Jam for Android Auto is available now with version 9.0.58.596 for Android, an update that is downloadable via the Google Play Store. Other major streaming platforms YouTube Music and Amazon Music are confirmed to be rolling out their own updates soon, being the next to take advantage of Android Auto’s revamped media flexibility.
