Spotify hits 2 million users in India
After just 5 months in the country Spotify has made a massive mark in India with more than 2 million users.
Spotify launched in India earlier this year in March and were off to a flying start. After just 5 days in the region Spotify announced that they had already gained 1 million active users on both free and Premium.
That uptake is still going strong with Spotify revealing they now have over 2 million users in India. The figure was revealed by Spotify’s Head of Global Markets, Cecilia Qvist, at the annual Rise tech startup conference in Hong Kong.
At the conference Qvist spoke on how they are still looking to launch in my new and emerging markets beyond the existing 79 where Spotify is available. She explained: “Just look at the penetration of mobile phones, for example, across the globe. I think it’s almost five billion, right? And we have 217 million users, so there is much, much more room to grow.”
Spotify are also betting big on their new Spotify Lite app helping to reach lots more users, with a build based around less data consumption and running more efficiently on older devices. Qvist continued: “It has 90% of the same attributes as our core product but is installing much faster.”
