Find out how Sony Music Publishing dominated the charts and claimed Publisher of the Year at the 2025 ASCAP Pop Music Awards.
Sony Music Publishing (SMP), the world’s leading music publishing company, has once again secured its place at the forefront of the pop music industry by winning the coveted Publisher of the Year award at the 2025 ASCAP Pop Music Awards. The award ceremony, held on May 1 in Los Angeles, celebrated the most performed songs of the past year, with Sony Music Publishing’s roster contributing significantly to the year’s biggest hits.
This marks the ninth time SMP has earned this honor, underscoring its sustained dominance and influence in shaping the global pop music landscape. The Publisher of the Year title is awarded to the publishing company whose catalog contains the most performed songs of the year, as reported by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP).
Sony Music Publishing’s songwriters were responsible for 28 of the most performed pop songs of the year. Among the standout tracks in its award-winning catalog are:
- “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” by Shaboozey, a breakout viral hit that blended country and hip-hop influences.
- “Hot to Go!” by Chappell Roan, an empowering anthem that lit up streaming platforms and festival stages alike.
SMP’s contributions also spanned across other hit singles by marquee artists in pop, R&B, and crossover genres, reinforcing its reputation for versatility and market relevance.
Under the leadership of Chairman and CEO Jon Platt, Sony Music Publishing has focused heavily on strategic signings, global partnerships, and ensuring fair compensation for songwriters. Platt has consistently emphasized the importance of equity, transparency, and artist advocacy, values that continue to guide SMP’s industry-leading initiatives.
In a statement following the win, Platt said:
“This award reflects the extraordinary talent and hard work of our songwriters and global team. We’re proud to support creators and to help bring their music to fans around the world.”
Beyond commercial success, SMP’s influence reaches into broader movements. Many of the songs in its winning catalog have become soundtracks to social media trends, cultural conversations, and global events. By blending commercial acumen with artistic integrity, Sony Music Publishing continues to shape not just the charts but also the stories and sounds that define each generation.
