SiriusXM coming to smart speakers powered by Google Assistant
SiriusXM is getting voice activated power on a whole new range of devices.
Google have announced that, starting next week, SiriusXM will work using Google Assistant. The streaming service’s hundreds of channels will be controllable on all Google Assistant powered devices using voice commands like “Hey Google, play the SiriusXM Hits channel on SiriusXM”.
With Google Assistant control users will be able to stream music, shows, and stations from SiriusXM on smart devices like the Nest Mini, Nest Hub, and Android and iOS smartphones. The integration will only work with audio to start with but they plan to make SiriusXM’s video content available on Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max devices later this year.
Google are offering a 3-month free trial subscription to SiriusXM for anyone with a Google Assistant account set up in their Google Home app. To sweeten the deal even further Google are promising that using Google Assistant to listen will provide exclusive access to in-studio performances, interviews and more.
SiriusXM has come a long way in the past few years, making it’s initial success as a satellite radio service for cars exclusively. Recognising the massive smartphone market, SiriusXM launched their services further to great success and recently bought music streaming giant Pandora.
