Shazam launches daily Viral charts to spotlight emerging popular music
Shazam’s Viral Chart playlist showcase fastest-growing songs across the globe and regionally on a daily basis.
Shazam has launched a new feature designed to highlight songs that are taking off in real time: Viral Chart(s). These charts are now live in both the Shazam app and Apple Music, showing which tracks are going viral both globally and nationally.
The Shazam Viral Charts went live yesterday (May 8th) and are now available within both the Shazam app and Apple Music. These charts aim to highlight songs that are going viral globally and in specific countries, using Shazam’s unique data signals. You can also view these charts on Shazam’s website.
According to David Emmery, who works for Apple Music, the charts “use signals unique to Shazam to surface songs going viral in real time, then ranks songs by their weekly growth in Shazam volume.” In short, they show which songs are rising fastest based on how many people are “Shazaming” them. The idea is to give a “comprehensive view of today’s fastest-growing songs across the globe.”
There’s a Top 50 Global Chart, as well as 42 national Top 25 charts, giving users and industry professionals a snapshot of viral music trends across the world. But it’s not just about numbers – the charts also reflect cultural moments. Songs that appear in TV shows, films, or go viral on social media often cause spikes in Shazam activity, and these charts aim to capture that.
These new viral charts pose a great opportunity for independent artists who find their track is blowing up online, or strikes a chord with viewers in a TV show. If a track quickly gains attention, it could show up in one of Shazam’s charts, placing it in front of more fans and playlist curators than it might have otherwise.
