Sensus Smart Guitar evolves the guitar into an effect riddled dream machine
Swedish music tech devs Mind Music Labs (MML) recently won an award at Midem’s Midemlab startup awards for their ridiculously innovative Sensus Smart Guitar. It’s a guitar that can’t be done full justice in words so watch the video above to see it’s crazy capabilities.
MML call it a “360º wireless music system” because it produces it’s sounds within the traditional wooden body of the guitar, made from the same wood as Stradivari violins. Using the strings vibration the wooden body amplifies the sound, like an acoustic guitar, but the technology within gives you the power to manipulate those sounds beyond what you’ve ever come to expect from a guitar.
Sensus features numerous touch pads up the neck and on the body that create a massive variety of modulations and effects without ever using an amp or any effects pedals. The technology in Sensus allows you to stream your playing to jam with friends, play along to songs, record studio quality straight from the guitar, and of course provide unparalleled performances.
Midem say of the winners: “Mind develops connected instruments that boost the way musicians express themselves. MIND’s Sensus is the world’s first Smart Guitar: it’s a guitar, a wireless music system and IoT device. It plays like a guitar, but it’s technology evolves what you can do.”
In response to winning the Hardware/Internet of Things and overall categories, MML wrote: “It is really with great honour and pleasure that we thank Midem and its partners Atomico, Bluenove, and Music Ally for this great opportunity and experience. As our CEO Michele said during his acceptance speech; the music industry has been in constant evolution for the past 50 years, and Mind Music Labs’ dream is to became [sic] part of this journey for the next 50 years, with a completely new generation of connected instruments that will finally bring musical expressivity and interaction to the next level.”
