Amazon are currently selling both the 256GB and 512GB MacBook Pros with Apple’s new M1 chip at $100 off the usual price.

Debuted in November alongside the new MacBook Air and Mac mini, these three Macs are Apple’s first computers with their M1 ARM-based chip. With hardware and software designed by Apple, M1 provides significantly better performance than Intel-based machines in the same bracket, with a fraction of the energy consumption, leading to an ultra efficient laptop. While the MacBook Pro can translate Intel-based applications on the fly using Rosetta 2, M1 really shines on those updated for Apple Silicon. These includes all of Apple’s own applications such as GarageBand and Logic Pro X, as well as recent updated apps such as djay Pro AI.

The fan in MacBook Pro with M1 gives slightly improved performance on heavy workloads than MacBook Air, plus includes a brighter display, an extra GPU-core on the base models, the Touch Bar and better battery life at up to 20 hours.

Both models for sale are the 8GB variants with either 256GB or 512GB SSD, in either Space Grey or Silver

256GB – $1199 (usually $1299)

512GB – $1399 (usually $1499)

Note, Apple may re-design the 13-inch MacBook Pro later this year, with a larger display, more ports, flat edges, Face ID and Mini-LED, however these will likely be geared at higher end users to start with, leading to a price increase.
